In two days, Ireland will vote on whether we want the eighth amendment to remain in the Constitution or not.
On Friday, I will be voting yes, because the country should not have control over my body, over my sister’s body, over my best friend’s body, over my co-worker’s body, or over any woman’s body.
My body, my choice.
Voting yes will give women a freedom that we have been stripped of for far too long.
Voting yes will give women rightful control over our own bodies.
Voting yes will give women the respect we truly deserve.
Voting yes will remind the country that women are here for more than one reason. Our sole purpose isn’t just to have children. We are here to work, to travel, to fall in love, to succeed, to laugh, to dance, to cry. We’re not just some vessel that carries children.
I am voting yes because we are worth a hell of a lot more than some people believe.
I am voting yes for the women who are forced to embark on grim journeys across to the United Kingdom. I am voting yes for the women who have to carry babies knowing their little one will never take a breath.
I am voting yes because women are people, and we deserve to have a choice.
